Ami 6 - Ami 8

Ami 6, 8 and Super: the AMI project

Citroën wanted to offer a mid-range car positioned between the DS range and the 2CV. The Ami 6 was launched in 1961 and combines the robustness of the 2CV with the finishing quality of the DS. It has a 602cc engine, and its inverted rear window provides more comfort for passengers.
In 1964, the estate version was released, which was even more successful than the Ami 6 and became the best-selling vehicle in France in 1966. In the same year, both vehicles transitioned from 6V to 12V electrical systems.
In March 1969, the Ami 8 was introduced. This car replaced the Ami 6 but retained many body elements. Like the Ami 6, the Ami 8 was available in comfort, club, and estate versions.
From 1974 onwards, the success gradually faded, and the release of the Ami Super in 1973 was a failure due to reliability and fuel consumption issues. Sales plummeted in 1976, and in 1978, the Ami range was discontinued, replaced by the LN (1976) and the Visa (1978).
